twinkle toes tuesday

Felicity was a dream at ballet today, full of giggles and poses. Here she is taking a break from fluttering around Studio 2 before her lesson started. The pink haze is thanks to the heat lamps . . . ooohhhhhhhh, it was cold in there!

glitter

Its odd how much more mischief the twins get into compared to how much H did at the same age. Today they opened two pots of (brand new) glitter, poured it all over the table and 'painted' with it. . . on the wall, chairs and themselves. When asked why, the answer was that they "wanted to be sparkly." Obviously!

The glitter in the bowl is what was salvaged from the table top. Its really is amazing just how sparkly the kitchen floor is after being swept and mopped twice!!

stare down

Mr. Giraffe is lil man's favourite toy at the minute; he is usually being jingled like a rattle, having his mane sucked on or being 'sung' to. This morning, however, there seemed to be a need to establish dominance between the two and a very long staring contest ensued. Sad to say, Mr. G. never did blink.

gym bunnies

H has been a part of the local gymnastics club for quite some time now but this week we got the call that there were two open spaces if Ims and Flick wanted to join in the fun. The girls were so excited to start, and H was a fantastic big sis showing them the ropes on their first day.

friday fun

Friday afternoons are a great time for Ims & Flick as they don't have to rush off after they get out of pre-school so we can collect H. We usually spend our extra hour collecting the pizza and other bits for 'magic popcorn night' from the grocery story or choosing the evening's film. Today we headed out to a park near to their school and had a whale of a time!

flicky feet

If you see a child come out of our house with shoes on the opposite feet, its gonna be Flick. She doesn't seem to do it by accident as it happens every day. In fact, she insists its comfortable... even in boots!

baby bumblebee

Poor lil man has started teething in earnest and his chew toy of choice is his bumble bee. I can't help but sing "I'm eating up my baby bumble bee" every time I catch him gnawing on it. He thinks its hysterical and so do I. Unfortunately, the girls aren't nearly as impressed over a song about a scooped up, squished, licked, and sicked bee.

sick day 2

H was suddenly very ill on Monday night. She seemed ok on Tuesday morning but we decided to keep her home just in case it was a bug. Wow, was she feeling better and was full of energy despite a night spent refusing to move from the living room floor for fear of being sick again. I had a flash forward to her in the Uni years, especially as she was saying things like: "I wish I wasn't in this world anymore so I couldn't be sick anymore" and "I wish I were dead!" Not dramatic, *at all.*

Her 'sick day' consisted of:
4 jigsaws
2 boardgames
12 rounds of Hullabaloo
3 rounds of toast
1 dvd

Hardly the quiet day I'd envisioned!

possibly paris?!?

Spen is taking the plunge and applying for a job in Paris, interview in the morning! We aren't sure how we'd go about it. . . daily commute? home for weekends? family move? No matter how we'd manage, we all wish him a lot of luck tomorrow xxx

FYI- this photo obviously wasn't staged, shame on you for thinking that it was!

goodbye curly-top

We spent over a year trying to convince H to get a haircut but she was certain it would hurt and teared up at the mention of one- that lasted until the start of Y1 when a lot of girls started getting bobs. No matter how much we told her that curly hair will not bob well, she was adamant that it was time to go short.
Today, I found her starting the job herself and realised it was time to head to the salon. She loved every second! H was blabbing away while getting her hair washed and chatting to the stylist like she was there weekly. Meanwhile, I was discretely sniffling into my latte. Our little curly girl is all grown up and she's rocking it!

knife & fork

We have a LOT of talks at our house about using your fork (or spoon, or knife, or chopsticks) when eating instead of using fingers. Not sure why Ims is so resistant, especially when eating beans, chilli or cereal. In any case, I was shocked to look across the table to find her not only using her fork... but her knife as well at lunch. Its a sad moment when that has you running for the camera! I think the celebration and positive reinforcement will go a long way toward making this an every meal event- check out that smile!

Promise the next post about Ims will not be about food or have a pic of her sat at the table, poor girl!

ladies night (+1)

As lil man is still quite young, unpredictable for eating, totally jetlagged and out of sync, he accompanied me on a girlie night in. Not sure if he was too keen on the film (or the hot gossip) but he loved seeing his favourite 'aunties' after dark! Pretty sure he is now very thankful we didn't name him Paul in any case!!!

Forgive the image quality, it was taken on my phone at 1145 after several glasses of wine- but it kept the 366 alive

SNOW!!!

The day before we were set to go to the States, it finally snowed there. I was beyond excited for the little man to have his first experience of 'true' winter so made sure we had a snowsuit at the ready (read: trip to Sainsbury's four hours before heading to the airport!).

His face seems to say... Why is my bum so cold?!? Not quite the gleeful celebration I had anticipated but atleast there were no tears!

and away we go

Lil man took his first trip on an airplane, doesn't he look excited!!! We were off to introduce the little guy to his Grandma and to all things Americana. This was taken just before boarding. . . at this point all the older ladies on the flight were cooing and smiling over him.

Add an extra two hours sat on the tarmac and a too small bassinet and he was much louder, crankier and definitely less of a granny-magnet!

brefkist for dinner

We all love having breakfast for dinner on swimming lesson nights. It's quick, easy and yummy! Tonight I noticed that Ims is the only one that still calls it brefkist; I will definitely miss these little mis-speaks as the girls continue to grow out of them.

sick day

Poor ol' Flick was up all Sunday night with a tummy bug and so had a sick day on Monday. We weren't home from the school run for 5 minutes before she asked: "What are we going to play, Mummy?!" Clearly, she wasn't feeling poorly anymore and she set about making me this lovely 'decoration' for the living room.

magic popcorn sunday?!

Ims & Flick enjoyed a bonus day of magic popcorn (extra special with m&m's). We all snuggled on the couch watching Aristocats as a treat while H attended a tobogganing party.

thank you

Another exciting Saturday night... writing "thank you's" while Spen's at work.

up the hill and through the woods, to H's school we go!

Lil man and I took a ramble up the hill to collect H from school, on the journey we learned a few things.

1. It's tricky to climb over a wooden stile with a baby in a carrier.
2. It's trickier to climb over barbed wire with a baby in a carrier.
3. Either lil man is very heavy or I am very unfit.

jack & the beanstalk

H had a wonderful time dancing and singing in this year's local Panto, Jack & the Beanstalk. She spent weeks singing 'My Favorite Things,' 'Thriller,' and 'Winter Wonderland.' We were so proud of how she took on the challenge and shone like the star she is. Bless her, she is already asking when rehearsals start for next year!

Here she is after the last show of the season.

Our Flick loves dinos, the meaner the better. Today she gave her
T-rex a softer side.

aquabeads

We were all feeling a bit of a January lull today and the girls were in particular need of some new and different activities so I crossed my fingers and hoped the aquabeads would save the day (and not cause more argument or a big beady mess!).

H shared her Christmas gift without batting an eye and was so patient helping her sisters take their turn to make all sorts of sea creatures. Lovely, super proud Mummy, afternoon had by all.

sleeping away new year's day

little man (who is rocking very sissy 3-6mo elephant dungarees) had no interest in celebrating the start of 2012, or in eating or playing today. surely, we will pay for this tonight . . .

365

In the grand tradition of many mom & mum friends before me, I have decided to take the 365 challenge and will be posting a pic of our family's daily life for the duration of 2012. Its a nice way to force my camera back into my hand after what has been a rather abnormal hiatus. Can't promise it'll entertain anyone but my mom, but its getting put out there for public comsumption all the same!
